Where we are now
Succession of the business has happened in 2025 with Dr Edith Gregory and Dr Lachlan Woods taking over ownership of LBS.
With a young and energetic team now in control the continuation of LBS services is guaranteed for the future.
Our Commitment to Animal Welfare
At the heart of our work is a deep respect for the animals in our care. We are committed to the highest standards of animal welfare in every aspect of our reproductive services. This means:
- Minimising stress and discomfort through gentle handling and best practice techniques
- Using evidence based protocols that prioritise the health and wellbeing of each animal
- Constantly reviewing and refining our practices in line with current welfare science
- Working closely with producers to ensure that welfare remains central to on-farm outcomes
Our goal is not only to enhance reproductive performance but to do so in a way that upholds the dignity and welfare of every animal we work with. Ethical care is not an add-on, it’s embedded in everything we do.

What our clients say
Greendale has worked with LBS for over 25 years. The professionalism, passion and reliability is why Greendale trusts LBS’s service and enjoys working with their highly experienced team. The expertise of LBS is fully utilised at Greendale through conducting the AI program delivery, semen collection and client semen transferals. Semen collection has always been a seamless and enjoyable process with the professional and accommodating support from John Hall, at Yass LBS. The only ones that enjoy it more than us are our chosen semen sires! With the high calibre of technical skills of all LBS staff, Greendale is able to achieve excellent results through LBS’s diligent work ethics.
Greendale is passionate about supporting and encouraging the growth of young people who are passionate about the future of agriculture. It is very exciting to see the younger generations of both businesses contributing and showing eagerness to learn and improve. We had the pleasure of having Edie and Lach conduct our 300 ewe AI program this year with our Greendale girls and young team members helping through genetic selection, programming and assisting on the day.

We have been working with LBS for 18 years, they have always been a pleasure to work with; organised, professional and most importantly consistently achieve great AI results!

In 2021 with the guidance and support of Livestock Breeding Services (LBS) we started the expansion of our Quartz Australian White stud ewe flock, based exclusively on Tattykeel genetics.
The decision to engage LBS was influenced by several key features and capabilities of the business. We liked the focus of their dedicated service in reproduction technology. Michelle, Michael and the LBS team are Industry leaders in animal reproduction. They have a continued linkage with University Veterinary Programs keeping in touch with the latest developments within the industry.
Our ET programs utilised the modern LBS facilities at Jerilderie and were smoothly completed on farm in Forbes. The facilities and flexibility allowed Quartz to undertake what at the time was a very daunting step in the growth of our business. The success of these programs allowed our Australian White Stud to grow rapidly from the initial 30 Stud ewes to over 400 ewes.
We continue to utilise the services of LBS including Semen collection, freezing and storage as part of our Stud Sire insurance program. If you require ET, AI or Semen Collection services don’t hesitate to contact the team at Livestock Breeding Services.

LBS have been our preferred team for AI since 1987. AI programs at Tattykeel are often large and complex with many breeds involved. 400-500 ewes are artificially inseminated each day with our best genetics, and we are looking to achieve the best results. LBS have delivered consistently high conception rates (in and out of season) with all of our breeds.
LBS has also been freezing semen in our top sires over the same period with semen quality always high, and our rams are always returned in great condition and good health.
I can recommend LBS to any breeder for the right results along with excellent service from Michelle, Michael and their staff.
Research
Continuing education is a high priority at LBS. We also like to “give back” to industry and so contribute to sheep breeding research projects when we can.
LBS maintains close contact with The University of Sydney and Charles Sturt University (Wagga Wagga) and has collaborated with these universities on many research projects. Research collaborations include investigations into the use of sex sorted semen in sheep and factors which influence which influence the results of sheep artificial insemination programs: Science Direct Article
LBS conducts AI for AMSEA Sire Evaluation Projects and has been involved in these programs in Bathurst, Boorowa, Cootamundra, Yass, Cooma and Dookie (merinosuperiorsires.com.au)
LBS Veterinarians are involved in the education of future reproduction veterinarians and setting standards for the industry. See video here of Dr Michelle Humphries (LBS) performing sheep AI as an education resource for Sydney University veterinary students with Prof. Simon de Graaf (Uni Syd) Sheep Preproduction Video
To progress research and adoption, LBS works closely with industry organisations and consultants such as Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), MLA, Australian Veterinary Association, MerinoLink, SheepMetrix (Sally Martin) and Craig Wilson & Assoc.
